Welcome to Safe Families for Children of Mid-Missouri! We began serving children and families in January 2020. We currently serve families residing in Boone County. Safe Families surrounds families in crisis with caring, compassionate community. We are a volunteer movement that provides hope and support to families in our local community. How Does Safe Families for Children Help a Family?

Safe Families for Children serves families who are experiencing a short-term crisis that interferes with the parents’ capacity to adequately care for their children, thereby placing them at risk of neglect, abuse, or inadequate care.  Families utilize SFFC due to temporary job loss, short-term incarceration, housing instability, illness, hospitalization, or stress. The families that utilize SFFC typically do not have an adequate family support system to depend on or to seek help from in a time of crisis. Safe Families helps families get back on their feet by providing a safe place for their children in the home of a volunteer host family, and by providing case management support to help parents reach their goals and connect to community resources.

For one parent our chapter served, she said, “Safe Families really changed the course of my life and my kids’ entire futures. I received a job offer for a position that could lift us out of poverty. I had been previously working full time, but between childcare and regular bills, my family had to rely on some government assistance to make ends meet. I was highly motivated to get off of assistance, but I ran into so many hurdles until I found Safe Families. In order to accept the job that could change our lives, I had to agree to go to an out-of-town training, and I had no family who could watch my kids. Safe Families enabled me to accept the job, and I was so pleased with the family who my children stayed with. The kids were happy and safe, and I was able to complete my training. I’m now a few months into my job and doing great, and there is no way I could have done it without Safe Families. Thank you for all that you do!”
